Mother Earth Breathing

My friend Ebba Malmqvists work on her PhD thesis "Exposure to air pollution during pregnancy and health risks for mother and child" inspired me to make this picture as a book cover. I thought about the pregnant mother as Mother Earth. The small particles of polluted air are absorbed into the system of her body and affect a child not even born. Even though a mother tries to provide the best of all the richness to her child she is affected by the air. The painting is made in watercolor and I work as a visual artist.
