Mai Farid – Acting CEO of the Universal Health Insurance Authority, Assistant Minister of Finance for Economic Justice, and Universal Health Insurance Authority Board’s Advisor for Strategic Affairs and the UHIS Project Management Unit Manager where she leads the UHIS projects with the development partners. She is also assigned as Subject Matter Expert for Social Protection, and for Universal Health Insurance.
Ms. Mai is responsible for developing a strategic framework for the Social Protection and Subsidy reform programs that ensure the social and financial impact of implementing these policies. She has been a key actor in many studies that aim to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of social spending and analyze how social protection programs contribute to alleviating poverty and reducing inequality. She is also a member in many technical committees that are responsible for putting the roadmap for the social protection system in Egypt and for suggesting exceptional safety net packages in times of crises. Ms. Mai is one of the main actors in the Universal Health Insurance System as she was a member of the National Committee for drafting the UHIS Law along with her responsibility for the actuarial study that evaluates and ensures the financial sustainability of the system.
Ms. Farid holds a M.Sc. Degree in Applied Actuarial Science (Kent University, UK) and prior to joining the government she has worked in the private insurance sector and taught Insurance and Statistics at the American University in Cairo.
